Who we want to be!

"A Christ Centred Community Passionately Committed to Transforming Our World"

How we get there!

"Helping People Find and Follow Christ"

The Mount Pleasant Church of Christ is embracing a time of change with a spirit of bold faith. We are grateful for the faithful service that has comprised our heritage and we desire to be faithful today with a view to growing into the future. Currently this entails journeying with Lifestreams Christian Church, who are functioning in an invited governance role. During this time of transition we commit ourselves to the mission, vision and values as derived from those of LCC.

Values serve as the foundation for the building of a healthy Christ Centred Community. We believe that God's Kingdom and Church will grow as He enables us to live out these values. These values are constant, passionate, Biblical and distinctive beliefs that influence:

    our shape
    our decision making
    our risks, goals and priorities.
We believe they have been given to us as a mandate for living out the purposes of Christ together.

Methods are many and can change as is necessary, while values are few and constant.

About Essential Beliefs - We Have Unity
About Non-Essential Beliefs - We Have Liberty
About All Our Beliefs - We Show Love

Our Centre is Christ; Our Book is the Bible
John 14:6, Acts 4:13, Phil 2:5-11, Col 1:15-20, 2:16-17, 1 John 1:1-4, Rev 1:8

The centrality of Christ is fundamental to Christian faith and doctrine. The Bible is primarily God's revelation to people in written form, which finds its fulfillment in Christ. Christ is God's ultimate revelation to people and our Christian faith is all about our relationship with God through Christ.

Christians Only, But Not the Only Christians
Acts 11:26, Eph 5:25b, John 17:13-23

We are committed to being known simply as Christians, recognizing that we are part of the universal Church of Jesus Christ that He loved and gave Himself for. It is our desire to commit ourselves to the unity of God's people as Jesus prayed and longed for.

Essential Beliefs

About God
Gen 1:26-27, 3:22, Psalm 90:2, Matt 28:19, 2 Cor 13:14, 1 Pet 1:2

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

About Jesus Christ
Isa 9:6, Matt 1:22-23, John 1:1-5, 14:10-30, Acts 1:9-11, Rom 1:3-4, 1 Cor 15:3-4, 1 Tim 6:14-15, Titus 2:13, Heb 4:14-15

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return to earth again some day to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

About the Holy Spirit
John 14:16-17, 16:7-13, Acts 1:8, 1 Cor 2:12, 3:16, 2 Cor 3:17, Gal 5:25, Eph 1:13, 5:18

The Holy Spirit is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth and guidance in doing what is right. He gives believers spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians we are to seek to be alert to His promptings.

About the Bible
Psalm 12:6, 119:105, Prov 30:5, 2 Tim 1:13, 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21

The Bible is God's Word to us. Human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit wrote it. Being God inspired it is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.

About Human Beings
Gen 1:27, Psalm 8:3-6, Isa 53:6a, 59:1-2, Rom 3:23

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God - called 'sin'. This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

About Salvation
John 1:12, 14:6, Rom 5:1, 6:23, Gal 3:26, Eph 2:8-9, 2 Tim 1:12, Titus 3:5, Heb 7:25, 10:10-14, 1 Pet 1:3-5

Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment a person receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith and this faith will be evidenced through the believer's life. Salvation is sustained through the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian.

People Were Created to Exist Forever
Matt 18:8, 25:41-46, John 3:16, Rom 6:23, 1 John 2:25, 5:11-13, Rev 20:15

We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally in unison with Him is eternal life. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence.

Our simple strategy to reach people for Christ:

Bridge Building

As followers of Christ, we are committed to building relationships of integrity with people in our world who don't know the Lord.

Sharing One's Own Story

Out of a relationship of integrity, believers have opportunities to share their own story of embracing faith in Jesus.

Opportunities to Get Together in Community

The community of Mount Pleasant Church of Christ meets together in a variety of ways. At all times, people who know Jesus and those on a path of discovering Jesus are welcome!

Each Christian recognizes the necessity of praying for their non-Christian friends.

Our simple strategy to help people grow towards maturity in Christ

Every disciple of Christ is encouraged to be committed to Christian Community. Heb 10:25.

Life Groups

Every Disciple of Christ is encouraged to grow in their Christian walk by sharing their spiritual journey in some form of Life Group.

Deeper Life

Every Disciple of Christ is encouraged to be personally devoted to hearing and responding to Christ through prayer and regular reflection on the Word of God (the Bible). Mentoring is available for those who desire to pursue growth intentionally with another and various discipleship courses will be offered towards this purpose.

Life Mission

Every Disciple of Christ who is a part of the Mount Pleasant Church of Christ community is encouraged to discover, develop and exercise some form of Christian service in the church and community. As ambassadors of Christ, all encounters are an opportunity to express the love of Christ, inviting people to find and follow Him.

The leadership of Mount Pleasant Church of Christ is first of all:

As a church, we desire to reflect the priority of Christ in all we do and how we do it. No decision is ever made that would knowingly contradict any of Christ's teaching. Together we endeavour to discern through the leading of the Holy Spirit what God is saying to us as a Church.

Team Dynamic

There are four teams of people who lead the ministry of Mount Pleasant Church of Christ.

Our philosophy of ministry is very simple. On the foundation of our dependence upon God, we take the unchanging Word of God and seek to live it out in the midst of an ever-changing world.

This overlap creates our fluid philosophy of ministry.

We are committed to functional, flexible and fluid structures that enable Mount Pleasant Church of Christ to follow the leading of God's Spirit. John 3:8
